The Mission For My Life Is...
The mission for my life is to educate and inspire the student and the sleeper to fully embrace their unique self-worth to such an extent they cannot help but design a life that will change the world for good.
"The one who knows not, and knows not that they know not, is a fool; avoid them.
The one who knows not, and knows that they know not, is a student; teach them.
The one who knows, and knows not that they know, is asleep; wake them.
The one who knows, and knows that they know, is wise; follow them." ~Persian Proverb (adapted)
I was born and raised in a small town in western NC and attended public school through the 7th grade. From 8th grade through 12th, I attended a private Christian school. After completing 11th grade, I began taking college courses and would complete my BS in Accounting with only one summer off. All of this while working at least 40 hours per week and volunteering in my community. That included being a chaplain at the prison facility from which my father had retired and actively serving as an EMT with a Fire/Rescue Company.
During my final year of college, I found out that my life's goal of being a federal law enforcement officer was impossible due to my eyesight. Devastated, I pivoted and went into telecommunications and networking, eventually rising to head the Education & Development division of a network consulting firm.
The startup company I had helped grow was not able to sustain the "dot bomb" crash of 2001, leaving me unemployed for more than 8 months. After 9/11, I decided to retry my goal of being a federal law enforcement officer, thanks to the possibility of LASIK vision correction. I took a job in private security paying less than 1/3 what I had been earning just to begin building my resume back to what it had been. After a few very successful years in my new role, I changed plans again and began a career in real estate.
Real estate is a phenomenal industry for those of us with ADHD, because it opens the door (no pun intended) to a variety of roles and niches in which to work. From helping buyers and sellers to working with investors, from teaching to coaching, and from helping shape the technology our agents use to launching a market center that serves dozens of associates, I've been able to utilize my strengths to design a life that fuels my passions.
After living in metro Atlanta for more than 20 years, I've come back home to western NC and am now serving as the CEO/Team Leader for a real estate franchise. It's been an incredible journey through pain & loss as well as incredible wins, all shaping me into a person of compassion and understanding I would otherwise have never known. Now I look forward to helping others find their own path and build a life that supports their dreams.
